Attendees and exhibitors at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2008 will find much more than a trade fair in

Salt Lake City this August – they will find a revolution.

The Outdoor Foundation is committed to making this year’s Summer Market go down in history as the show where the outdoor industry realizes its power as a mobilized force.

The outdoor industry can work together to single-handedly reverse downward participation trends in our market, while working to halt the trend toward youth inactivity in America today. The Outdoor Foundation makes joining this movement realistic and easy through the launch of the “I Will” campaign.

All it takes to become part of the change for a healthier society and industry is a signature that is your pledge to take two kids outdoors over the coming year. The Outdoor Foundation will make it easy to sign up.

Pledge locations will be found at the Open Air Demo, in hotel rooms, and throughout the Salt Palace, including at Outdoor Industry Association booth (#56000) and in the Paddlers’ Lounge (TKTK).

Of the 28,000 expected attendees and exhibitors at OR Summer Market, The Outdoor Foundation is committed to attaining 10,000 signatures. The Outdoor Foundation will then take the pledge national, working to position the outdoor industry as a visible and leading voice for change on these critical societal issues facing youth today.

“The Outdoor Foundation has set a big goal for the “I Will” campaign, but it’s realistic because our industry is strongly committed to reversing the decline in participation and working to change the trend toward youth inactivity,” said Frank Hugelmeyer, Outdoor Industry Association president and board member of The Outdoor Foundation.

“We are about to embark on an important legacy for our youth together as a united front. Our industry can be the catalyst to enable more kids to be outside, to ensure a healthier environment with a new influx of stewards, a healthier next generation, and a healthier industry,” Hugelmeyer adds.

The “I Will” campaign bridges the collective support of the outdoor industry to proactively encourage healthier children, healthier communities and healthier businesses.

The Outdoor Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 established by Outdoor Industry Association to inspire and grow future generations of outdoor enthusiasts. For additional information visit www.outdoorfoundation.org.
