Spring is officially here– and for some that might mean blooming flowers or warmer weather, however, in my mind, spring triggers one thing – the kick-off to thru-hiking season! I’m Alexa, a Director at Verde, I embarked on my 2013 Appalachian Trail hike in the snow on March 30 from Georgia, and my Pacific Crest Trail thru-hike in 90-degree temperatures from Mexico on May 5, 2017. With two thru-hikes under my belt, and now working in the outdoor industry, I love talking gear, and thinking about all of the products that I would bring on a future thru-hike.

Backpacker’s Pantry, a family-owned maker of gourmet adventure meals, announces today its latest partnership within its ‘Environmental Access and Education’ give back vertical, with the Young Masterminds Initiative nonprofit organization. Specifically, Backpacker’s Pantry will provide financial support to its Camping to Connect program for youth from Black, Indigenous and People of Color (“BIPOC”) communities in New York and Colorado. Backpacker’s Pantry will also make food donations throughout the year for their excursions.

Over the course of the past year, Backpacker’s Pantry donated a combined total of approximately $178,000 to 12 organizations including: 1% for the Planet, American Hiking Society, Cal-Wood Education Center, Community Food Share, Community Foundation Boulder County, The Conservation Alliance, Conscious Alliance, Continental Divide Trail Coalition, Outdoor Afro, SLOW Money Initiative and Thorne Nature Experience.
