57 hours: frequently asked questions
What does the name 57hours come from?
A true weekend warrior wants all the time they can get to do as much climbing, running, skiing, surfing and whatever else possible outdoors. From the moment you leave work on Friday at 3pm - because every weekend deserves a little jump start - until Sunday at midnight, you have exactly 57hours to challenge yourself, conquer new objectives and recharge your batteries before the week starts anew.
What is it?
New York City-based 57hours is a platform where you can find and book the best guided outdoor adventures out there. 57hours launched in 2018 with a mission to help outdoor adventurers push their limits and experience hidden spots that only locals know about, with the comfort of having a certified mountain guide there to facilitate every step of the way. 57hours is an intuitive mobile app making it easy for thousands of professional mountain guides around the world to promote their favorite trips and take guests of all ages off the beaten trail, whether that’s an amazing new climbing route or a hidden stash of powder in the backcountry.
Who are the guides?
57hours connects its users with the most experienced and certified professionals in the industry. The app team makes sure that every guide listed in the app is certified and trained by the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA), which includes over 4,000 certified mountain guides in the US, to ensure a strict vetting process. Additionally, 57hours requires all guides to obtain permits for the areas they work in.
What kind of adventures does 57hours offer?
57hours currently offers adventures, classes and workshops for rock climbing, backcountry skiing, avalanche education, ice climbing, mountain biking, hiking, surfing, kayaking and kiteboarding.
Why should I book through 57hours and not an agency?
Often times agencies selling adventure packages receive a much bigger cut than the guide. 57hours connects you directly with the guides and their programs, enabling a better experience for everyone involved. The app also serves as a marketing platform for the guides, allowing them to promote special trips and build their clientele. 57hours earns a small booking fee from each trip, which doesn’t cut into the guides’ earnings.
What is the booking process like?
The 57hours app is convenient and easy to use, comparable to an Airbnb for booking mountain guides. You can look for a specific guide by name or choose by location and the app will match you with guides in that area.
Where are the trips offered?
57hours currently offers activities in over 20 cities across the US and also in select international destinations including Japan and Chamonix. Check out some of our favorite destinations here: https://57hours.com/best-of/
