Tailwind athlete Courtney Dauwalter wins UTMB ultra-trail, setting course record

DURANGO, CO [Aug. 30, 2021] - Tailwind Nutrition athlete Courtney Dauwalter won the women’s division of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) this weekend— with a time of 22:30:54— setting a new course record. UTMB is the pinnacle of ultra trail running as a single-stage mountain ultramarathon that follows the route of the Tour du Mont Blanc. Dauwalter’s feat broke the women’s record for UTMB which was set on a shorter course in 2013 by Rory Bosio

This is Dauwalter’s second time winning UTMB. Her win this year took two hours off her 2019 winning time of 24:34:26. In the men’s division, France’s François D’haene won with a time of 20:45:59, his fourth win of UTMB.

Tailwind Nutrition Endurance Fuel was Dauwalter’s primary and continual source of complete nutrition and electrolytes throughout the duration of the 106 mi (171 km) race, with a total elevation gain of 32,940 ft (10,040 m). Many athletes struggle to find a sports drink that works best for them due to gut issues. Tailwind offers gluten-free, vegan, Non-GMO, and soy-free Endurance Fuel and Recovery drinks that easily mix with water and are designed to meet the calorie, hydration, and electrolyte needs of endurance athletes without upsetting the stomach during sustained periods of exertion.

“Tailwind is extremely proud to be providing complete nutrition that is fueling top endurance athletes such as Courtney,” said Tailwind Co-Founder and CEO, Jeff Vierling. “When we see achievements like this, it is a reminder that we’re on the right track in providing an essential tool that is helping to power the performance and dreams of athletes all over the world.”

“I feel so thankful to have been able to return to Chamonix for this race,” said Dauwalter. “The trail, the community, and the competition make it a very special race.”

Dauwalter’s win at UTMB this week follows an exciting month for other Tailwind athletes, including Annie Hughes who won the women’s division of the famous Leadville Trail 100 running race with a time of 21:06:58.
