March 10, 1974: Mountain Safety Research opens first storefront today
Newly constructed retail store now open to the public
SEATTLE, Wash. (March 10, 1974)— Seattle-based Mountain Safety Research® (MSR®), introduces its first ever brick and mortar retail storefront. The newly constructed MSR Retail Store is now open year round in Seattle according to the schedule below.
“The new Mountain Safety Research storefront will let our customers handle some of our newest products for themselves, including the MSR Ice Axe and MSR Headlamp,” says Larry Penberthy, MSR Founder. “Customers who live outside the Seattle area can still order products by mail from the Mountain Safety Research newsletter.”
The new store features state-of-the-art, modern retail technologies to provide an enjoyable customer experience, including electronic cash registers and the ability to accept credit card payment.
Operating Schedule:
Monday - Wednesday: 8am - 6pm
Thursday - Friday: 8am - 8pm
Saturday: 9am - 5pm
Sunday: Closed
How to Find the Store
MSR’s new retail store is located near South Park, which is southwest across the Duwamish River from Boeing Plant 2 in Seattle.
From the North on Interstate 5, take the Albro Place exit and turn right. Follow the small arterial to the big arterial, which becomes East Marginal Way. Turn south six to eight blocks and turn right on 16thAve South. Cross the bridge and continue six to eight blocks to South 96. Turn right two blocks.
From the South on Interstate 5, take the West Marginal Way exit, about five miles to the Des Moines Way exit. Cloverleaf around and head south one block to South 96th, then right two blocks.
